Homesteading Time Period

Postby Alegria » Wed Jan 13, 2010 4:55 pm

We've been studying the time period after the Civil War. Next week we are supposed to move on to WWI, but I feel so unsatisfied. I feel a sense of urgency to keep going, with the twins in high school, but It feels like we are missing so much. I would really like to STOP and spend the rest of the year doing a unit study on the Little House books (Prairie Primer is probably too long & too young or maybe not enough age span, maybe a 12 week unit? Suggestions??)

This feels like the last year I can do this. Then next year do 20th Century history (with US Gov. for the twins), They would still have time to do two more years of history as high schoolers. (They are doing a High School US history now along with sitting in on the 1800's with the younger kids.)

I am just not in the mood for the World Wars right now! I also feel like we would be rushing through the Expansion period, & the 20th century to try to fit it all into this year. I like to SAVOR history!

When I get bored with a particular subject, I like to take one or two days each week and do something different. It gives us something to look forward to and keeps us from burning out on any subject. Could you do WW1 3 or 4 days a week and do Little House the other(s)?
Never argue with an idiot - they drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.
