Online classes

Has anyone here ever taken any online courses that they liked? Did you learn a lot? Was it different than a normal classroom? How? Share about it with us, bad and good.

Penn State offers an online course every February on raising meat goats that is pretty nice and quite inexpensive. I thought it was informative. http://bedford.extension.psu.edu/agricu ... essons.htm

I took a free online class in the basics of homeopathy. I really enjoyed it. I also use online classes and lesson plans for my children. They are usually very short but we like them.

Joyfully,

When I was in high school my aunt was pregnant and on bed rest so I went and lived with her to take care of her other children. I needed to be there all the time but still needed to get my schooling done so I took one full semester of my high school classes as independent study. They were not online back then but they do offer them online now. The classes themselves were not any harder or easier than at school but making myself do them was tough. That may have been because I was doing all of the jobs a mom normally does (which is a ton!) and trying to do my schooling all at the age of 16 but I think it was mostly hard because there was no one telling me what to do. I was completely in charge and not doing my school work didn't affect anyone else so sometimes I just didn't. So the point of all that is, If you or your child are going to take independent study or online classes, it is best to have someone actually there to keep you accountable. A parent, spouse, or really good friend works great for that.

I also just earned my assoc. degree by completing my college courses by ind. study. Again, not any more difficult than in person except the part about being responsible.

You received your associate degree by independent study? Was some or most of it through online courses? Wow,that is impressive. You must have some serious self discipline.

It's been a while since I was on here. Sorry for the great delay. I finished my degree through online/independant study. It was about 18 credits I did that way. The rest I had done in my time at college. I got married had 7 kids and then decided I really wanted that finished so went for it. Now I'm tempted to go on with my bachelors but hubby says with #8 on the way and homeschooling all the kids he'd like my "spare time" spent elsewhere. That's fair.

We offer on-line classes and I am currently taking one from the Appraisal Institute.

Basically I am not for them because you get more education in a real life class. But they have their place.

I've taken some independent study classes when I as in college. I enjoyed them because I could go ahead and finish the work before all the other classes started having exams and such. I've also done some of the Berean courses thru my denomination (Assemblies of God) and enjoyed those.
