crochet and younger generation

Postby Ani » Tue Jan 26, 2010 11:50 am

I am taking a few lessons to learn how to crochet. I am really enjoying it and I thought this was something done mostly by the older generation. Not so. Yesterday I was in yarn heaven at Hobby Lobby and in the aisles there were young women shopping for yarn and I was pleasantly surprised. Some had babies and small children in their carts. I think knitting and crocheting is more popular with the young women than I realized. I think it is a good thing to keep these older crafts alive. What do you think?

I would love to be able to crochet & knit. I seem to be yarn challenged; even taking lessons didn't work. :crybaby: My DIL(31 yrs old) is self taught and she does beautiful work. Many of her friends are also taking up the needlecrafts, it's making a resurgence among the gals who are in the late 20 to mid 30 age range.

Some day, I Will figure out how to crochet. I keep repeating that in hopes that my hands & brain will figure out I'm not a quitter.

My grandmother crocheted, and my sister learned, I guess from her. But Mom didn't, and I never learned.
Surprisingly, to me, my own 13 year old daughter has learned to crochet and knit, and loves buying herself new yarn and new kinds of needles. Seems like she is always starting a new pattern or planning something new. She loves to watch the "how-to" show Knitting and Crocheting Today on PBS.
I think it's great.

Both of my daughters crochet. I never could see where the stitches were. It just looks like a jumble to me. My sister taught them.

My boys all make things on Nifty Knitters.
Never argue with an idiot - they drag you down to their level, then beat you with experience.

My favorite is thread crochet. When I am under a lot of stress, I crochet like crazy. It's comforting somehow.

I would like to crochet this daisy square afghan. I think the colors would be pretty for a summer bedspread:

Vickie crochet is relaxing to me also. I saw a daisy square afghan in white yarn with silver thread running through it. It was beautiful.

Sunshine - knitting and crocheting is one of my favorite shows on PBS also. Amazing and beautiful things are being made.
