Chicago Gun Ban

Should the Supreme Court uphold Chicago's handgun ban?
I'd rather be a could-be if I cannot be an are; because a could-be is a maybe who is reaching for a star. I'd rather be a has-been than a might-have-been, by far; for a might have-been has never been, but a has was once an are. - Milton Berle

Latest news is the law will probably be nationwide. This is a very good thing.

Steve,

I'm sorry you believe no one should have handguns. Seems to me that any gun ban violates the second amendment and is unconstitutional. Also the Supream Court recently ruled everyone has a basic right to defend themselves, including using a gun, so gun possession is allowed. You are welcome to believe anything you want. If you don't want to own a gun then don't but don't tell me I can't.

he's right, steve - your grammar is impeccable - unfortunately, in your haste you took a position you never intended -

Uh, I'm pretty sure most people know me here by now. But I apologize if I didn't make myself clear. And the law I spoke of, that is, the Supreme Court ruling, will mean that NO CITY will be able to outlaw handguns. There was no potential of upholding bans for all cities, since there are no current laws in other cities (to speak of) similar to Chicago's before the court. The news headlines are what I'm referring to here. Kinda thought that was obvious.

Steve,

What you said could have been interperated such that the gun ban will be nationwide. I don't know you well enough to know what your position on gun control is. Glad it's against gun control. Have a nice day.

It is like those damn computers. They do what I say, not what I mean! :shock2:

Yup, but I knew that was a lie. I worked as a software engineer back in the late 60's and 70's. While the pay was good, life certainly, especially work, was not easier. They were industrial control systems and if you screwed up, you could kill someone. Much like the Apollo moon shot computers.

Way off topic here. Someone asked an Apollo astronaut if he felt safe riding in a space capsul. He replied that he was sitting on top of 2 million parts and each one was let to the lowest bidder.
